Phnom Pen Cambodia - 12-15 March

This post is actually out-of-order.    It should have been posted before The Killing Fields.

We traveled by van from Siem Reap to Phnom Pen about a 5hr drive.

Other than the Tour of The Killing Fields, and Prison S21, we were able to enjoy ourselves in this city of Phnom Pen.   I always want to put an 'e' in Phenom  :)

We stayed at Ohara Hotel, we didn't have a very nice view, but we had lots of friendly pigeons !

and a nice pool area and also hot tubs on the roof.

It was along the River and within easy walking distance to markets and places to eat and drink.

We did a Sunset Cruise along the Mekong and Tonle sap rivers on a double decker boat.

Saw the floating fisherman villages

and the plants artistic-ly floating

and visited the Night Market where you could get just about anything you wanted to eat... we did find a table and some chairs for our dinner.

Unfortunately my skewer meat was so tough i couldn't eat it.   The flavor was wonderful though.

it was followed by several scoops of ice cream in a coconut shell with some coconut slices in the bottom

Had some great evenings and dinners, especially at a Taco Tuesday Mexican Restaurant.

On one night, in preparation for our next adventure, a 4day diving Liveaboard, we had a group 'hydrogen peroxide' ear wax cleaning party.

The last day we visited the Kings Palace, who by the way is 71 yrs old and never married.

We saw a lot of these at Angkor Wat and I finally found out what it is:   the 9-Headed Serpent,  a Snake Head always with an odd-number of faces, and it acknowledges the power of the snake-spirit.

And the pointy part at the end is the tail, ...which is obvious now.   That tail is seen on many buildings here, as you can see in this photo.

One of the buildings on the grounds has a room with a real silver floor!   And billions of dollars worth of diamonds set in statues.   I cannot imagine how they are able to protect it.   Our Guide said they have guards...

The first thing our Guide showed us was this flower.   I saw it years ago when I was in Thailand.     The flower is very fragrant and blooms only one day, and the next day, the next bud blooms.   He said it continues the the entire year.   A sign of hope for the future

It is called the CannonBall Tree, ...for obvious reasons.

I found this photo on line which gives you a better idea of the Palace buildings

We started our last night dinner with $2 Margaritas, then back to the other Mexican restaurant for dinner.

We had to get up at 4am the next morning for our flight from Phnom Pen, though Bangkok to Phuket, Thailand.   Here we will get aboard the Manta Queen 7 for our 4night Liveaboard.  I’ve never done a Liveaboard before, so stay tuned  :)
