13 Feb, Thurs

in the morning i went to the Whale Shark office and got photos from the rest of the group and shared mine.   they put them on the WSORC FaceBook page.   .... they used, and credited me, for 3 photos that i took  ... cool  :)

i am happy that my new home is pretty quiet.   they do, however, have 2 of those big green parrots ... probably not the proper name for them ...

they are the ones that talk and can mimic to perfection !   ...there is a guy doing some painting, and he had the radio on ... and i heard all this loud yelling and talking ...   now in my opinion, the Utilian and Hondurian peoples talk REALLY loud and REALLY fast.   the Utilians speak English, but it's a strange sing-songy English .. reminds me of 'da Yoopers', it is hard to understand them sometimes, and of course, the Hondurians Spanish i don't understand at all.   ... and it all hurts my ears  :(   ... i got up to lookout the door ... no people ... the voices i was hearing, were actually the birds !

i walked down with my camera to video, ... the guy turned the radio off so i could hear, but then they stopped, he turned the radio back on, and they started again .... crazy !

i walked around a little today ... they are doing really nice mosaics with broken bottles here ... reuse, recycle ....

the Iguana Research Station here works on breeding and reintroducing an endemic species of Iguana .... (you may remember that word from last year in the Galapagos, it means that it is found no where else on earth).    it is the Spiny Tailed Utila Iguana.   they also did some nice mosaic's around town ..

and this one for Breast Cancer Awareness ...
looks like the letters are made out of bicycle tires

Crazy Story:
-i met Kyle at Madi's in 2011, he was only there for a short time and he helped me put up some roofing one afternoon; then left.   i really never got to know him.
-i went to Madi's again in 2012, and as i was leaving to go to Guatemala, Kyle approached me at the Water Taxi !   ... said he was on his way to Spanish School in Nicaragua ... small world ...
-i was in Guatemala with Eddi, Jolene, and Lonnie at a small little town on the other side of Lake Atitlan ... we were walking down the street ... i hear 'hey Donna'  ... it was Kyle again, he was still on his way to Nicaragua ... wow, ... really small world
-after i left Guatemala, i came to Utila ... i'm in a bar one night (rare occasion for me), and who comes up and hugs me ... Kyle !  ... the world is getting smaller
-now, 2014, 2yrs later ... i'm walking down the street and someone taps me on the shoulder ... yes, Kyle  :)      ....crazy, crazy world of travelers !

i thought one of the Dive Shops was doing Thai food tonight, so i got there around 6pm, coz i heard it's become very popular.   but, i was misinformed ... it's tomorrow night, Thai Friday   :(

so i walked down the road to the Driftwood.   i can usually count on Jungle Jim being there, he was, and we visited the rest of the night.  i also ordered the Fish Platter.   she asked me if i wanted it breaded and fried, or grilled ... i was about to say 'grilled', when she said 'you want it fried'  ... so i said ok.   i would have never ordered it fried.   it was FANTASTIC.   two HUGE pieces of thick fish!   garlic and butter mash potatoes, and a salad.   this is the place that is owned by Texans .... they know how to prepare food!    this is the same place i had that wonderful smoked pig leg dinner.   their beef comes in from the US and i hear it's excellent.   i'll  have to try it next.   can't afford to eat there very often though !   ...but you get what you pay for here :)

a few days ago, i walked up to BICA, the Bay Island Conservation Association, office, where i volunteered for a month in 2011, and it was closed; but i think it was the weekend, so i didn't think too much of it.   Jungle has been here 18 years and is a good source of history and information.  i asked him about BICA.  he said that they were closed, that they lost their funding and didn't have any money!    i was shocked by this... it was such an active organization when i was there ... i wonder what happened ?   ...and they were the ones that did patrols on the water to find illegal fishermen taking turtles, etc.   ...makes me sad ... is there no one doing that now ?

i walked home with half of my dinner for tomorrow  :)
